Edward Bury passenger locomotive

Chris has been developing a scratch built design for the incredibly small Bury locos. You can read some of the technical development in the Chris' blogs. The tiny locos have a solide brass (milled out) domed firebox and are completely scratch built right down to the wheels.

Stephenson small Samson loco

The difference between a small Samson and a Planet is essentially that the four coupled wheels. Later large Samsons were different in numbers of ways as the loco size increased. In fact there were few standard locos in this period as each couple of locos produced was used to experiment with slight changes and size increases.

Stephenson as Chief Engineer of the London & Birmingham ordered a number of small four coupled locos back in 1834 of which a number survived into company stock in 1839 where they were recorded by Francis Whishaw.

Bury Loco tender

A few photos of the Bury tender. Of particular interest are the shields either side of the loco number on the sole bar. Chris has explored the idea, for which there is evidence, that coke locos would have the coke in the tender still in sacks.
